Shea Butter is coveted by global cosmetic and food companies for its amazing moisturising properties and applications in food and confectionery. Shea butter begins its life with the nuts of the Shea tree, which grows wild across the northern region of Ghana, West Africa.

Traditionally, it has been women who gather the ripened fallen Shea fruit. Working within the Shea trade is often the sole source of income for these women and their families.

In Ghana, the economic importance of Shea butter is enormous. Nearly six hundred thousand women are employed along the value chain.

Our projects are making a real difference.

Our projects are making a real difference.

The projects financed by our fair trade development initiatives have a collective use and benefit entire communities.

Our projects funded to date include protective clothing for Shea nut pickers (boots, gloves, first aid and medical treatment supplies) during Shea nut harvest season, as well as social support (including children’s schooling, medical expenses coverage, community boreholes, and wells).

In 2021, we commenced the construction of a dam for the community of Kagbal. This desilting project provided clean drinking water for the whole community. In 2022, Phase Two of the project will involve installing animal-proof fencing and a solar-mechanised water treatment system for even higher water purity.
